Brokerium 0.1.0: a control plane for Apache Kafka KRaft clusters
Brokerium 0.1.0 is out. It is a control plane and web dashboard for Apache Kafka clusters that run with KRaft: one place to see every cluster, and a safe way to change them.
What is in 0.1.0
- Multi-cluster dashboard: health, brokers, the KRaft quorum with voters, observers and lag, topics, partition distribution, consumer and share groups, configuration and versions.
- Operations engine: every change is planned as a dry run, confirmed, executed step by step behind a health gate and recorded in the audit log.
- Rebalancing: a deterministic planner for replicas, leaders and data, plus manual moves, always throttled.
- Node lifecycle: add, drain, decommission and replace brokers, add and remove controllers, migrate static quorums to dynamic ones, rolling restarts, through a small agent on virtual machines and through Strimzi on Kubernetes.
- Rolling upgrades with preflight checks and a separate finalization of the metadata version.
- Data plane: topics, ACLs, SCRAM users, quotas, groups with offset resets, messages.
How it is tested
Every scenario of the roadmap, from scaling out and balancing to replacing a lost broker and migrating a static quorum, runs as an automated end-to-end test against real Kafka clusters in a Docker lab. The tests run on every pull request and every night.
Try it
The quickest start is Docker; Helm and release binaries are on the installation page. Brokerium is free to use, including in production, under the PolyForm Shield License 1.0.0 (see licensing).
What comes next
The next release focuses on operations around the product: automatic renewal of agent certificates, a published Helm chart and the Strimzi scenarios in continuous integration. The roadmap is public, and issues are welcome.
