Brokerium focuses on operating KRaft clusters safely. Many teams use it next to the tools below; this page explains where each one fits.
Cruise Control
Cruise Control is a mature rebalancing engine with self-healing and anomaly detection, driven by broker metrics. Brokerium has its own deterministic planner that needs no metrics reporter on the brokers: it works from partition placement, log sizes and offsets, and shows the plan before it runs. Next to rebalancing, Brokerium covers controller quorum changes, the broker lifecycle and rolling upgrades.
Kafbat UI and AKHQ
Kafbat UI and AKHQ are web interfaces for topics, messages, consumer groups and schemas. Brokerium covers the same data-plane tasks and adds the operations a platform team runs on the cluster itself: adding and removing controllers, rebalancing, replacing brokers and upgrading.
Strimzi
Strimzi runs Kafka on Kubernetes through custom resources. Brokerium does not replace it: on Kubernetes it works through Strimzi, scaling node pools, rebalancing and running rolling restarts and upgrades with the same plans and health gates it uses on virtual machines, and it shows Strimzi clusters next to your other clusters.
Conduktor
Conduktor is a commercial platform centered on developers and data governance. Brokerium is centered on platform operations of the clusters themselves and is free to use, including in production.
When Brokerium fits
- You run Apache Kafka with KRaft on virtual machines, Kubernetes or managed services, often several clusters at once.
- You want controller, broker and upgrade operations planned, previewed and checked against the health of the cluster instead of run by hand with scripts.
- You want one server to install, with no agents for read-only use and rebalancing.
