Licensing

What you can do

• Download, install and run Brokerium for free, in production and inside companies of any size.
• Use it to operate your own Apache Kafka clusters, including clusters that serve your customers’ applications.
• Read, study and modify the code for your own use, for example to patch a bug before an official fix is released.
• Share copies, modified or not, for these purposes, as long as you keep the license and the Required Notice line.

What you cannot do

• Provide a product or service that competes with Brokerium, even for free. That rules out forks or rebrands offered as an alternative, a hosted “Brokerium as a service” for third parties, and Kafka management products built on Brokerium code.
• Remove the license terms or the Required Notice line from copies you share.
• Use the Brokerium name or logo for your own products or modified versions (see trademarks).

Commercial licenses

OEM, service provider and other terms are available on request. Write to [email protected]; the maintainer replies personally.

Future versions

Future versions may be published under different terms, for example a more permissive license or an additional commercial edition. Versions that are already published keep their license.

This page explains the license in plain words. The LICENSE file is what applies; if the two ever disagree, the LICENSE file wins.
